Jeff Fouts: “Estate planning attorney, Jeff Fouts, here. I want to give you a little personal background on myself. People wonder where I’m from and all those things.
I am from North Georgia. North Georgia is a great place to be from. It’s a wonderful place, the mountains, the rivers, the creeks. My family has been in North Georgia for 160 years and counting. We’re not natives, but we’re pretty darn close to being natives.
Perhaps some of you have heard of a place called Big Canoe. A lot of people have heard of Big Canoe. My great-grandfather used to own a big piece of Big Canoe back in the day and farmed it. We are country people, farmers. That is my background.
His son, my grandfather, got a job at a place called Georgia Marble Company. Perhaps you’ve heard of it. He worked there for 55 years until they forced him to retire. My grandfather and I share something in common that’s very important. He didn’t mind working. I don’t, either.
As a matter of fact, I want to take it one step further. I like working. I don’t know if I’m a workaholic or not, but I like working. I get bored after three days of a vacation. If you go on vacation to the ocean, what’s the big deal? The ocean goes out, the ocean comes in. It’s always the same as it was the last time you visited. I’m being a little bit frivolous here.
What if you go to the mountains for vacation? Well, I’ve lived in the mountains. I’ve got hawks and bears in my yard, all of these fun things, and raccoons. There’s no place like home. I don’t need to take all these different kinds of vacations.
As a matter of fact, I don’t plan on ever retiring. I’m married, I have a wife, and she loves me. How do I know she loves me? Here’s the way I know. I have not had a TV for 24 years. I haven’t had cable ever, in my entire life.
All my wife and I do is chat and talk. I’ve never played a golf game, don’t even know how to play golf. I’ve never watched sports on TV. I’ve never watched a sports game to completion, ever. I do not even know how to throw a football or baseball. That’s how bad it is.
All I ever do is read, and I don’t read fiction. All I do is read non-fiction, history, philosophy, theology, technical investing books, etc. I also have two children, two grown children, and they’re both pretty good kids.
Anyway, if we could ever help you, maybe review your estate plan, just let us know. Have a good day. Thank you.”
